Milan vice-President Adriano Galliani has insisted that the renewal of Stephan El Shaarawy's contract shows the direction the club are going.

The 20-year-old put pen-to-paper on a deal until 2018 this afternoon, and the Rossoneri administrator has claimed that it was of the utmost importance to tie the youngster to a long-term contract.

The 20-year-old put pen-to-paper on a deal until 2018 this afternoon, and the Rossoneri administrator has claimed that it was of the utmost importance to tie the youngster to a long-term contract.

“El Shaarawy is completely protected now,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Having lowered the age of the team [last summer] we now do not need to sell our best players.

“We've got back on track very quickly. Our fans understand this project.”
