Stephan El Shaarawy admits he “could’ve scored” as Italy wasted chances to draw 2-2 with Romania.

The Azzurri conceded early on, fought back to lead 2-1 and then let in another at the 88th minute in this friendly.

“The second half was decidedly better than the first, we created many scoring opportunities and it’s a shame we didn’t hold on for the victory. You have to win in these situations,” the Little Pharaoh told Rai Sport.

“We could’ve scored a third goal, we didn’t manage it and Romania equalised. I am angry at the result, especially as I could’ve scored a goal and I know that.

“We stepped on to the field convinced of what we had to do, but Romania scored with their first chance. We reacted well, but were unable to take home the win.

“The role I prefer is to play wide left. I have been more consistent in my performances for Monaco too, but I do need to be more consistent in front of goal.”
