Stephan El Shaarawy says he aims to be back ‘within three weeks’ to help Milan into the Europa League.

The Italian international has been sidelined with a compound fracture of his fifth metatarsal, but the striker returned to training this week and spoke to Milan Channel about his recovery.

“I’m very happy with how my check-up went,” El Shaarawy revealed.

“The doctors told me it couldn’t have been better. The injuries I had were small, but annoying. I’m glad to be back running.

“The doctors told me it couldn’t have been better. The injuries I had were small, but annoying. I’m glad to be back running.

“This week I’ll also return to using the ball. It’s a wonderful feeling. To have been out for almost three months was a bad thing.

“I’m glad I’ve already done a few dribbles, I was missing it.

“I hope to recover within three weeks, to get my stamina and condition back. I’m confident for the final months of the season.

“We hope to get enough points to qualify for the Europa League, and my goal is to help the team.

“I’m trying to recover as soon as possible, I hope I can help out when I return. I’m training every day to get back as soon as possible.”

Though he won’t play, El Shaarawy also expressed the importance of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

“It’s an important week because of the derby. I hear about it a lot. It’s a special game, and we have to win at all costs.”
