Stephan El Shaarawy has admitted his ‘annoyance’ at finding himself amongst the Milan substitutes, but vowed to give his all when the opportunity arises.

The 21-year-old endured an injury-ravaged 2013-14 but kicked off the new season with an assist in the Rossoneri’s 3-1 victory over Lazio on the opening day.

However, El Shaarawy was then demoted to the bench for the side’s last three matches, and the forward admits that he is frustrated with the situation.

"I don’t know if I will play [on Sunday against Verona] because the Coach has not named his team yet,” El Shaarawy has told reporters this evening.

“However, what I can say is that I'm fine, as I have been for the last three games. After the match against Juve, I had fully recovered and my absences were technical choices.

“The only thing I can say is that when I am called upon, I will give my all. I want to prove myself.

“[The national team] is absolutely one of my goals. I had started the season well, putting in a good performance against Lazio, but then I was benched three times in a row.

“There is a little sorrow and annoyance, but this year there are many of us and there is so much competition. I'm training well and trying to do my best.”

Nonetheless, El Shaarawy believes he has shown Filippo Inzaghi enough promise to warrant a starting place sooner rather than later.

“Even against Chievo, I gave it my best shot, showing that I can be the protagonist, but I'm not worried. I have the confidence of my Coach, who speaks to me every day,” he added.

“[Inzaghi] told me that I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. He knows what my qualities are and what my value is. I want to do what I do with serenity.

“A goal has evaded me for a long time, but my main objective is to do well, both for Milan and myself.”
