“With this Coppa game, we start the season for real,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It’ll be an important match against a difficult opponent, but will also be fundamental in our preparations for the Serie A season, so I need to evaluate the players at my disposal.

“Playing away to Crotone will put us at a disadvantage, as they’ll be fired up in front of their home crowd and have some top level players. It won’t be a walk in the park.

“The Coppa Italia is important to Sampdoria and I want my squad to face it with the right mentality. I’ll use this performance to make decisions on the line-up for the Serie A opener too.

“The team is improving, we stepped up the level of intensity in training sessions. Manolo Gabbiadini, Gianluca Caprari and Albin Ekdal have recovered and could come off the bench.”
