Speaking to media after the match in Genoa, the Coach reserved some harsh words for his players, adding that they need to learn how to close out matches.

“What did I think after the final whistle? That it was better to stay at home today,” Di Francesco lamented.

“We played perfectly for 85 minutes and we lost 3-2. My players need to understand that you need to play until the end.

“I understand they are young, but you cannot concede three goals in that way. It is absurd.

“We were naïve, Sampdoria were good and lucky. It is not easy to digest this defeat.

“I am not scared, with the changes I wanted to keep our balance. On the contrary, my players need to learn how to close out a match.

“I am sorry because we worked very hard for this game and the blame is ours alone.”

Sassuolo must now turn their attentions to the Europa League, with a trip to Athletic Bilbao coming up on Thursday.
