Roma went down 4-1 at Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, but Di Francesco insisted the Giallorossi played better than the scoreline suggested.

“We haven’t taken anything for granted and we’re leaving nothing to chance,” the Coach said at a Press conference for Saturday’s Serie A game.

“We must be combative, even if we know that coming back from 4-1 down against Barcelona is very difficult.

“We have to believe in something important, with determination and pride, but we made a mistake at Bologna by thinking about Barcelona.

“Today we’re thinking about Fiorentina, knowing that we must keep third place, also because our next League game will be against Lazio.

“We made too many individuals errors. We’re growing in terms of mentality, but the results say we’re not growing enough.

“There must be no psychological backlash, but we must build on what happened in Barcelona.

“Pallotta? We’ll talk everything over willingly, but stock is only taken at the end of the season. It’s too early now.

“Squad? We hope Cengiz will be back for the second leg against Barca, while Perotti took a blow to his calf at Camp Nou.

“Nainggolan will be assessed today. Defrel will play as a start. As for Schick and Gerson, we’ll see.

“Let’s leave Patrik to it. A lot of attention has been paid to him, but we still have to wait for him to mature.

“It’s not the first time that a player with great ability can’t express themselves at a club, so I wouldn’t just single him out.

“We have to improve our relationship between goals and chances created, but there are still lots of games to go and important assessments to be made.

“Kolarov will play again on the left, but Jonathan Silva’s training better now. Peres? He was one of the best against Barcelona.

“Karsdorp? We’ve seen how players who are rushed back, like [Andrea] Conti, then suffer relapses.

“Therefore, it’s always better to take it slow, wait a bit longer and, at this point, think about next season.”
