Di Francesco was confirmed as Marco Giampaolo’s successor last month, and Samp finally unveiled him to the Press on Monday afternoon.

“I thank the club, President Ferrero and Carlo Osti for the great opportunity they’ve given me,” began the former Roma boss.

“I wanted to get back on track after my experience at Roma, and I’m convinced that this is the right place for me to work.

“I’m here to entertain the fans and get results. As for objectives, I ask my players to show humility in their work.

“However, it’s too early to say how far we can go, although I think we can build something important.

“I chose Samp because I wanted to get back into football and this is the right place for me to do that.”

The 49-year-old was then asked about his club’s work in the transfer market, which has already seen four players signed.

“I have an important base to work with. The transfer window has opened, and the club want to satisfy me in that regard.

“Verdi is one of the players we’ve shortlisted. There’s some truth in that, but we’re not only looking at him.

“As for Quagliarella, he’s the only Samp player I’ve heard from over the phone. I think he can repeat his previous season.

“I’ve watched Maroni and in my 4-3-3, his role will be that of a left winger. The team already have a mentality, one of always building play.

“We’ll certainly try to improve our performances away from home. As for the derby, it’s a game unlike any other.

“I hope to sustain our positive recent run.”
