“First of all there's a fundamental fact: I'm glad that I stayed,” insisted Eder after an Inter offer was rejected this summer.

“I'm honoured by Inter's interest, as they are a team that I greatly admire, but I told the President I was willing to stay. I'm feeling really happy at Sampdoria and in the city of Genoa.

“There have been some complicated moments, no doubt. I remember Monday in the training camp with La Nazionale, when the phone kept ringing and there were continuous rumours, seldom truthful.

“Everybody wanted to know what was going on. But I was relaxed, I knew what I wanted.”

Samp had a rough start to the campaign with their Europa League preliminary round exit, but have since settled down under new Coach Walter Zenga.

“I hope that I can still score decisive goals and that we can conquer three points, like we did last year.

“I know that Inter are very strong and they made several important signings, so it won't be easy. But we're a tough team, especially at home. We always play as one and we always play to win.

“At the Stadio Ferraris we feel at ease, perhaps we pick up greater confidence. We certainly can do very well, as we did against Roma.

“It's no novelty, last year we had an extremely positive record at home, except at the end of the championship. Rather what we ask ourselves in the changing room is why we can't do equally well when playing away.

“We're working to improve on that too, starting from the next match away against Frosinone. If we want to aim for the higher parts of the standings, then making points at home isn't enough.”

Eder has been on spectacular form and is currently Capocannoniere with six goals in the opening six rounds.

“I think it's the result of my personal development. When I joined the Blucerchiati I was 24, I couldn't be the same person that I am now.

“Soon I'm going to be 29, and I'm conscious of how important it is to train, live as an athlete and prepare games with care. Besides, time teaches you how to forget about the past and focus on the present.

“I found a new drive, because if I hadn't been doing well then they'd have told me that I was unhappy and that I wanted to leave.

“I don't feel very different to last year. The difference is made by the goals. Last year it took me 10 games to score a goal, now I scored six in six games. It's a very positive moment and I'm enjoying it.”
