Edin Dzeko is increasingly unlikely to join Chelsea this month, while the Emerson Palmieri deal with Roma also hangs in the balance.

The Stamford Bridge side had originally planned a double swoop for the pair worth €55-60m, but over the last 48 hours, it has reached a critical point.

According to sources in both Italy and England, Dzeko is refusing to make the move unless he gets a contract to June 2020 at an increased salary.

These are personal terms that Chelsea are simply not prepared to meet for a striker who turns 32 in March.

Dzeko is also concerned he’d get limited playing time with Alvaro Morata in the squad, especially as he’s cup-tied in the Champions League.

Roma finished top of their Champions League group ahead of Chelsea and will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Round of 16.

Emerson Palmieri’s move was meant to be separate from Dzeko, but appears to also be in trouble.

More should be known one way or the other by Monday, otherwise Chelsea will look elsewhere.
