Edin Dzeko winked at the camera as he relished the brace that beat Atalanta 3-2, hinting at a new Inter contract. ‘I’ve been doing this for over 15 years, so some might be surprised, but not me…’

“We started a bit sluggish, but we woke up when conceding, which is what happened last time too. When you win in the end, that’s fine, when you don’t, it’s bad,” Dzeko told Sky Sport Italia.

“Atalanta are always a dangerous team, but we really woke up after that initial goal and it was a good performance from then on.”

The 36-year-old shows no signs of slowing down with nine goals and four assists in 20 competitive matches this term.

“I am not surprised by my form, I’ve been doing this for over 15 years. Others might be surprised, but I’m not…”

With this result, do Inter have hope of getting back into the Scudetto race, especially considering the first match back on January 4 is against runaway leaders Napoli?

“The hope is to win the next game. As I said after Bologna, we must look forward and not back, take it one game at a time.

“We have to congratulate Napoli for a great season, both in Serie A and the Champions League, but there’s a long way to go yet.”

Dzeko is only under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of this season, but he has been perhaps their most effective player, especially with Romelu Lukaku injured.

“I have a contract until June, I do my best, I want to stay here and continue, so we’ll see what happens.”

So if Inter call with an offer, will you rush to sign?

“We’ll see,” he replied with a wink.
