Edin Dzeko jokes he was ‘saving myself for this moment’ to get a last-gasp Inter winner against Venezia after earlier misses. ‘There are no easy games.’

The Lagunari are newly-promoted to Serie A and decimated by COVID cases and injuries, yet still took the lead at San Siro through a Thomas Henry header.

Nicolò Barella equalised on the rebound from a parried Ivan Perisic volley and Dzeko snatched victory in stoppages.

Serie A | Inter 2-1 Venezia: Last-gasp Dzeko turnaround

“There are no easy games and we saw yet again this was one of the most difficult we’ve faced all season,” Dzeko told DAZN.

“It’s also true we were coming off some exhausting matches, including one in extra time for the Coppa Italia and a tough trip to Bergamo.

“The important thing is that we win at the end. When you score at the last minute, you have to celebrate with fire. I did miss scoring goals, but the important thing is that the team wins.”

Simone Inzaghi kept faith with the striker, replacing Lautaro Martinez but not the Bosnia international.

“Maybe I hadn’t found the net lately because I was saving myself for this moment! I have no regrets, it was a wonderful way to win.

“Inzaghi played football, he understands that I can resolve a tricky situation even in the last minute. Venezia were all sitting behind the ball and trying to counter, but you can get a goal out of anywhere.”

Inter are therefore top of the Serie A table going into the Derby della Madonnina against second-placed Milan.

“The break comes at the right time, we are all a little tired and hope the San Siro turf can improve after the rest too, because it’s disastrous at the moment. The ball just stops rolling and it’s really difficult.”

3 thought on “Dzeko: ‘I was saving myself for Inter winner’”
  1. Surely their luck will run out at some stage this season with their late winners. This team has 9 lives. Liverpool will see their luck run out.

  2. When you are just a hater and your team is so bad that you have to put your hope in another team from another league to stop this unstoppable Inter

Very happy with this win, it shows that even if they didn’t play well, this team still has that grinta and that sense of calm that goal will eventually come, befitting that of the champions.

    Keep crying them salty tears
