Paulo Dybala feels Roma ‘needed to send a message’ with their 7-0 hammering of Empoli and welcomes the debut goal from Romelu Lukaku. ‘There is no egotism here.’

The Giallorossi had just one point from the opening three rounds and went into this game without Lorenzo Pellegrini, Houssem Aouar, Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham and Marash Kumbulla.

However, they demolished sorry Empoli 7-0 with a Dybala brace, own goal, plus Renato Sanches, Bryan Cristante, Lukaku and Gianluca Mancini on target.

“We certainly needed to send a message, change something and each of us try to make a sacrifice by giving something more. I think we did that tonight,” Dybala told DAZN.

This was the first time that Dybala and Lukaku were able to start together and both of them were on target, even though the Belgian found the net late on when La Joya had already left the field.

“I am happy with Lukaku’s arrival, Azmoun, N’Dicka and all the new signings. I spoke to the coach and tried to get back into shape during the break for international duty, I feel good today.”

Dybala opened the scoring this evening from the penalty spot, but seeing as Lukaku also has an excellent record in these situations, will the Argentine be open to sharing those responsibilities?

“There is no egotism here, whoever feels they want to take the penalty will take it. So I’ll take some and some will be for my teammates.”
