The 17-year-old Milan shot-stopper spoke to TG1 about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Spain and Macedonia.

“I have a wonderful rapport with Buffon. In these first few call-ups he has given me so much. I follow his every movement in training, because I want to learn everything from him,” said Donnarumma.

What does he respond to people who call Donnarumma a goalkeeper destined for greatness?

“I try to work hard and do my best with great humility, because that is what my parents taught me first and foremost. My mother in particular always tells me to stay humble and behave well.

“My father continues to work as a carpenter, but he doesn’t want me to help him, as I’m not as good as he is in these matters.”

The family influence also means Donnarumma won’t end up like so many football stars covered in tattoos and bling.

“My father always says: ‘No tattoos and no earrings,’ so I will never have them!

“The transfer speculation doesn’t turn my head. I just try to have fun, because that is the basis of everything in this line of work. I am focused on Milan right now and doing as well as possible for my team.”
