Gianluigi Donnarumma became Italy’s youngest ever goalkeeper and the 17-year-old’s feelings were “indescribable.”

The Milan shot-stopper made his debut for the senior squad in a 3-1 home defeat to France at Bari’s Stadio San Nicola.

“It’s indescribable. I thank Coach Ventura for this opportunity and my debut. I am really quite emotional about it,” Donnarumma told Rai Sport.

Paul Pogba went to hug him before the second half began. What did he say?

“Pogba complimented me and said he was happy to see me here. I said the same to him.”

Donnarumma did concede one goal, beaten at the near post by Layvin Kurzawa. Was it avoidable?

“We’ll analyse the goal tomorrow with the Coach.”

Gigi Buffon made his senior Italy debut 16 months before Donnarumma was even born.

“Buffon told me to stay calm, do what I know and to have fun. It’s a new era, we are at the disposal of the Coach and in four days we’ll try to do better in Israel.”
