Daniele Gastaldelli saw red for ending a clear scoring opportunity and Nikola Kalinic converted the resulting penalty.

“It was a shame that we went a man and a goal down at the same moment,” Donadoni told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a shame that we went a man and a goal down at the same moment,” Donadoni told Sky Sport Italia.

“The screenplay of the match could not change, but my lads fought to the end and I think they deserved something more. When you work that hard and emerge empty-handed, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, but it must fire us up for the next games.

“We have to play Roma with the same spirit we had today, ready to fight it out with anyone.”

There was bad news for Bologna within 10 minutes, as Simone Verdi was stretchered off with a sprained ankle.

“He has gone for tests, we hope it is nothing serious. I hope Mattia Destro can be back for the Roma game, but to be honest I can’t promise that.”
