The Rossoblu appeared set to claim all three points at Stadio Olimpico before referee Marco Di Bello adjudged Marios Oikonomou to have brought down Wallace in the penalty area.

Replays have since suggested the Lazio player engineered the contact himself, but Ciro Immobile stepped up to earn the hosts a point with the last kick of the game.

Replays have since suggested the Lazio player engineered the contact himself, but Ciro Immobile stepped up to earn the hosts a point with the last kick of the game.

“It’s obvious that when you concede a goal in the 97th minute, from a penalty that wasn’t, it makes you angry,” Donadoni told Italian television.

“We also switched off a little, we hesitated and that gave them the chance to get a penalty.

“It’s true that Lazio could have scored before they did. But if they do it when it’s fair that’s fine, if they do it when they got a decision they shouldn’t have it’s different.”

Despite the late setback, the former Italy boss was still pleased with his team’s display in Rome.

“It was still a committed performance with character. I am happy about that.”
