Raymond Domenech will “call to see” if Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain will play for Brittany.

The French region is one of the six Celtic nations [along with Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and the Isle of Man] and retains much of its own culture, as well as a Celtic language, Breton.

Higuain is an Argentina international, but was born in Brest in the north-west of Brittany, so is eligible to play for the Breton select.

“I haven’t contacted any players, but I’m going to start,” Domenech said in a Press conference at the Union Clubs Professionnels Football, as reported by Ouest France.

“The goal is to have the most successful team possible.

“Higuain? I think I’ll call him and see, but it may be complicated with the Copa America. We won’t try to convince players, they have to want to come.”

Brittany will conduct an African tour, taking on Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso between May 22 and 28.

Other eligible players include former Milan playmaker Yoann Gourcuff who was born in Ploemeur, and current Rossoneri star Jeremy Menez, whose family is from Brest.
