Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali confirms one between Domenico Berardi and Davide Frattesi will leave in the summer: ‘It wouldn’t be ok to sell both.’

The Italian duo has been monitored by several clubs, both in Serie A and abroad.

Berardi has recently extended his contract at the Mapei Stadium but remains one of the best players in the league as well as one of the most prolific Italian players in Serie A in 2023.

Carnevali spoke to RAI Sport on Monday night and confirmed that only one between Berardi and Frattesi will leave.

“Maybe we won’t sell both, only one of them could leave, it wouldn’t be ok to sell both,” he said.

Frattesi is a long-time Roma target, but Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is also a big admirer of the 23-year-old although the Italian tactician has never coached Frattesi in Reggio Emilia.

Carnevali confirmed Sassuolo’s transfer strategy, which they already used in the past with other players, including Gianluca Scamacca, who joined West Ham for €36m a year ago.

“Our policy has been the same for 10 years,” said the Neroverdi director.

“Sign players when they are young, make them develop and join top clubs. We sold Giacomo Raspadori, Scamacca and Hamed Traore, but we have invested and we want to continue on this path.”

  1. A big part of that strategy was getting talented players from the Roma youth set up, due to his behaviour in the Frattesi saga he has closed that avenue. Very shortsighted on his part.
