The midfielder made the transfer from Napoli at the same time as Kostas Manolas completed his switch to the Stadio San Paolo.

“I cut my vacation short so that I could return early, get to know my new teammates and Coach,” he said in his Press conference.

“It will certainly help that I’m coming straight off the African Cup of Nations, as I am in good shape. I think we can have a great season at Roma.

“I arrived here very motivated and know that I am at a huge club. Roma’s minimum objective this campaign is Champions League qualification and we’ve got to give our all to make that happen.”

Diawara had been linked to Roma in the past, but left Napoli after struggling for playing time under both Maurizio Sarri and Carlo Ancelotti.

“I am still young and hope that my best is yet to come. I played against Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman at Roma, but now that I am here, why not try to do even better?

“Watching the teams that Fonseca worked with in the past, I know the midfield is very important to him, as he always wants to play out from the middle with the ball at our feet. When the Coach called, it was very exciting, and it’ll be an honour to work with him.

“My idol has always been Yaya Toure and I see myself in him more than anyone else.”
