Italy’s Alessandro Diamanti has criticised the playing surface used in last night’s Euro 2012 semi-final win over Germany.

Although the National Stadium in Warsaw has been praised for the atmosphere it generates, more than one player struggled on the bumpy surface.

“I’m happy that I came on during the game as a substitute, but it wasn’t easy,” the Bologna man noted. “The field of play was slippery and it was not easy to stay on your feet.

“It was definitely not a pitch worthy of a semi-final.”

The Azzurri deservedly progressed to Sunday’s Final against Spain in Kiev with a 2-1 victory on Thursday night.

“We will give our all in the Final,” the attacking midfielder added. “I don’t have that much experience at this level, but these games are always well-balanced.

“Knowing my teammates as I do, we’ll have a good go at winning the trophy.”
