Antonio Di Natale admits he couldn’t have played for Napoli as “it would have weighed on me so much”.

The Udinese legend was born in Naples and grew up supporting the Partenopei, but he insists that’s exactly why he could never have pulled on the blue shirt.

“As a Neapolitan and a Napoli fan I wouldn’t have been able to give my all in the Azzurro shirt, it would have weighed on me so much," Di Natale told Fanpage.

“As a Neapolitan and a Napoli fan I wouldn’t have been able to give my all in the Azzurro shirt, it would have weighed on me so much," Di Natale told Fanpage.

“Since I’m Neapolitan everyone would have expected more from me, and because you’re a fan if it goes badly you suffer even more – it wouldn’t have been easy.

“Naples is a beautiful city, and for a player to go onto the San Paolo pitch is fantastic.

“The Scudetto? If they continue like this the Azzurri can do it, they have to hope Juventus concentrate on the Champions League. The tricolour would be a dream.”

Di Natale famously rejected Juventus, and he was asked for the reasoning behind that.

“The club talked to me, but I was happy in Udine, I said no because I was happy. It was a choice made with my head and my heart.”
