Transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio suggested that he’s ‘never had doubts’ when providing an update on Rafael Leao’s new contract with Milan.

The 23-year-old Portuguese winger’s future has been a key talking point of the Rossoneri’s season, with the club desperate to tie him down to a new contract before this summer. His current deal expires with the club in June 2024, making this summer a good time for interested parties to try and pounce.

Leao has proven himself the central figure in Stefano Pioli’s squad and Milan are working hard to recover the winger for their upcoming Champions League semi-final first leg with Inter.

Speaking in the studios of Sky Sports Italia, Di Marzio confirmed that Leao would put pen to paper on his new Milan contract in the near future.

“He’ll sign and soon even. I believe they have never been as close as in the last few days. It’s clear that now the club has their focus on the match tomorrow night as is normal, but in recent days there have been very positive meetings and therefore I believe that after the match, from Thursday onwards, every moment will be good to reach a final, total agreement.

“It’s just a matter of time and then Leao will renew, I have never had any doubts, even in the most difficult moments I have always spoken of serenity and great confidence because it was Leao’s will to stay, and Milan’s will to keep him happy.

“Then there were previous situations that had to be resolved, such as Sporting’s claims, but all parties involved have worked and are working to resolve the final details so that Leao can, very soon, renew with Milan.”

The 23-year-old Leao is expected to sign a new five-year contract with Milan, worth €6.5m net per season plus add-ons, with an €150m release clause.
