Chievo Coach Domenico Di Carlo was again furious with referees and VAR officials after a 4-0 defeat to Sassuolo. “How can we compete when we are penalised every time?”

The Flying Donkeys had two goals disallowed this evening, the first for a foul in midfield during the build-up, the second for a tight offside call.

“How can we compete on level terms with the others when we are penalised every time in this indescribable way? You can’t referee like this,” Di Carlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Every time we try to take the initiative, to be a team, but not everyone can officiate like this with us. It’s not possible, we must be allowed to fight on a level playing field with the others.

“We were penalised in the first half, so naturally after going 2-0 down, our players lost their heads. I hope someone out there realises that we have our share of the blame, but we must be allowed to play.

“If the opponents play better, fair play to them, we’ll shake their hands and say well done, just as we did against Atalanta. However, that’s not how it went against Cagliari and Milan, for example.

“If it was just a one-off, I wouldn’t be here talking about this, but we may be bottom of the table, that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve respect. I demand respect.

“Let us play!”
