Former Roma striker Marco Delvecchio concedes he thought Edin Dzeko would reach his goal tally sooner, and hopes Aleksandar Kolarov’s bow was a “gesture of apology”.
After scoring in the 3-0 win over Chievo on Friday night, Dzeko moved to 83 goals scored for the Giallorossi.
That puts the Bosnian international level with Delvecchio in eighth place in Roma’s list of all-time top goalscorers.

That puts the Bosnian international level with Delvecchio in eighth place in Roma’s list of all-time top goalscorers.
“Given the way in which he started the season, I thought he would have reached my tally within two or three games compared to when he actually did,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Why is he not appreciated? Roma haven’t won anything in recent years, 11 years without a trophy and 18 without a Scudetto.
“He arrived after winning the Premier League and Bundesliga, he scored a number of goals, but it wasn’t a surprise. Fans expected this from him.”
Meanwhile, Kolarov was also on the scoresheet last time out, and celebrated by bowing to the Roma fans.
Opinion has been split on the nature of the gesture, but Delvecchio is hopeful that it was an apologetic one amid a tense relationship between the Serbian stalwart and the fans.
“It’s never nice when a player scores and gets jeered,” he added.
“Roma fans can also give a lot of love. It’s a city and fan base that welcomes players in, like they did with me.
“I like to think that it was a gesture of apology. I really hope that’s what he meant by it.”
