Luigi Del Neri believes it is too soon to view Udinese’s match with Pescara as a potential relegation six-pointer.

The Bianconeri have lost four of their last five Serie A games in a run that led to the sacking of Beppe Iachini and the arrival in Friuli of the former Juventus boss.

It is a sequence of results that has seen the club slump to 17th in the table, while Sunday’s opponents are only a place higher.

“It’s a little exaggerated to say that,” Del Neri told reporters when asked about the match’s billing as an important one in the battle to stay up.

“You can’t talk about relegation six-pointers right now, even though I believe it is a match to win.

“The season has still been too short to make these conclusions.

“We view it as a key match. We need to start approaching games with some responsibility, against a fast team who play good football.”

Udinese showed some positive signs in a narrow 2-1 defeat at Juventus last weekend, but Del Neri called for his team to forget about their display in Turin.

“We must forget about Turin because that was a particular game in which there was nothing to lose.

“Playing in front of our home crowd, we are obliged to play a strong match. Even in defeats, Pescara have always fought, as they did against Inter for example.”
