Roberto De Zerbi admits he is ‘hurt’ by Benevento’s latest last-gasp defeat.

Despite being on the back-foot for much of their match against Genoa, it looked like the Streghe would collect just their second point of the season.

However, Gianluca Lapadula converted a penalty in the second minute of added time to consign them to a 17th loss in 18 Serie A matches.

Despite being on the back-foot for much of their match against Genoa, it looked like the Streghe would collect just their second point of the season.

However, Gianluca Lapadula converted a penalty in the second minute of added time to consign them to a 17th loss in 18 Serie A matches.

“At the moment it’s hard to talk about it,” a deflated De Zerbi reacted post-match.

“It was a match in which we suffered against a team stronger than us.

“Although we suffered, when we had the chance to be dangerous we did. It hurts.”

The Streghe Coach expressed his displeasure that VAR technology was not consulted for the penalty decision, despite the protests of the Benevento players.

“The referee had a very good match, but if they use VAR for everyone it should be for Benevento too.

“OK, we are bottom but it should be used for us too. Just as we respect everyone, we want to be respected.”
