Davide Ballardini believes Genoa deserved their late win over Benevento,
following Gianluca Lapadula’s injury time penalty.

The Griffone looked like stumbling to a disappointing draw at Marassi against a team who had lost all but one of their matches so far this season.

However, Lapadula converted from the spot after being fouled in the box in the closing stages to spare his side’s blushes and claim a vital three points.

“In the first half we were a little off the pace, but in the second we created six, seven clear scoring chances,” Ballardini reflected.

“Before the penalty we have different chances to go in front.

“With that desire and sacrifice, we deserved the victory.

“It isn’t easy to score goals, it’s not easy to create chances.

“I would be much more worried if Genoa weren’t creating, like in the first half.

“It is a very important victory but we know very well that we need to look forward.”
