Mario Beretta thanked his players after securing a much-needed victory on his Brescia debut. “This is a great start.”

The Coach took charge after Beppe Iachini was sacked this week and immediately secured their first win since September 22, beating Sampdoria 1-0.

“I had asked the lads for real intensity and pressure on the opponent, staying tight to put the brakes on Sampdoria's characteristics,” he explained.

“The lads were really putting the effort in and ready to sacrifice themselves for the team.

“Obviously it will take time to make the necessary changes, but this is certainly a great start against a top side like Samp.”

Brescia had managed just three draws and eight defeats since their last win against Roma on September 22, failing to even score for 263 minutes of football.

It also represented Sampdoria's first loss at the Rigamonti in 17 years.
