“I’m disappointed, because in terms of the scoreline it was a big defeat,” De Zerbi admitted in his post-match interview with Sky.

“We knew we were facing a very strong team who will finish just behind the big clubs, though I think I can objectively say that the scoreline was harsh.

“Then they have a player [Ljajic] who put the ball in the top corner twice. When you play against teams with champions like that you can go under.

“Were we too attacking? I know what the quality of my squad is in relation to the League, but I think that attacking football is the most advantageous.

“Of course you can lose, but a team that wants to avoid relegation has to turn defeats around. The mentality won’t change, but changes will be made.”

Oscar Hiljemark came on as a first-half substitute, only to be hooked at half-time, was he injured?

“Robin Quaison didn’t have 90 minutes in him, Roland Sallai had been out for a few days so I put on a player who needed to recover.

“After they went ahead we were never able to recover, so I took him off but not because he was bad.”
