Roberto De Zerbi confesses he is a “proud” Brescia fan as he prepares to take Sassuolo to the Rigamonti tomorrow.

De Zerbi was born in Brescia and spent a season on loan at the club as a player during the 2007-08 campaign, but he will be in the opposing dugout on Wednesday evening.

“I’m from Mompiano, the neighbourhood that the stadium is located in,” he said at a press conference.

“I grew up in their curva. I clearly support Brescia and say it with the utmost pride.  But now I work for Sassuolo and tomorrow I’ll give all of myself for this team.

“We have to pick up points. They’re on a great run of form and it will be a difficult game because Brescia have important players and we respect them a lot.

“We must have the spirit seen in the match against Milan. Magnanelli, Marlon, Djuricic and Berardi still need to be assessed. In goal Consigli is ready, but I’ll line up with Pegolo.”

Mario Balotelli was linked with Sassuolo before moving to the Rondinelle over the summer, but just how close was he?

“Balotelli’s never been close to Sassuolo but, not knowing him personally, I can’t say if he’s a difficult player to manage.

“We could certainly have done more to turn draws into wins, but we’ve given everything, physically and mentally.

“We’ve been facing teams in their best form, from Lazio to Brescia.”
