Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi revealed which team he is supporting at the World Cup in Qatar and who else he’d be happy to see lift the trophy.

Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, forcing Azzurri fans to pledge their support to other nations for the tournament. De Zerbi returned to the football world back in September, signing a four-year contract with Brighton following the departure of Graham Potter. Whilst he’s struggled to pick up wins, things are looking extremely positive on the pitch.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, De Zerbi revealed which team’s he’ll be cheering for at the World Cup in Qatar.

“I have always been a Brescia fan by family tradition and I follow my favourite team even from a distance.

“At the World Cup I’ll be supporting Argentina and I’d like to see Mac Allister in the limelight with Messi, but if England win I’d be very happy anyway. Because the English have welcomed me very well.”

Many Italians have decided to cheer for Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina, a country which contains millions who have Italian ancestry.

The winter scheduling of this World Cup means leagues around the world have been forced to take a six-week pause. Serie A will return on January 4.
