Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi suggests Serie A teams split into two and that five substitutions are allowed if they are to play every three days.

The campaign has been shut down for over a month and training won’t be allowed to resume until at least May 4, as Italy continues to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s reported the season could resume from May 31 and end by July 12, but that would mean playing twice a week and putting a huge strain on the squad.

It’s reported the season could resume from May 31 and end by July 12, but that would mean playing twice a week and putting a huge strain on the squad.

“Usually teams have six weeks of training before the season begins, then they play once a week,” De Zerbi told Radio Deejay.

“This time around, we’ll play every three days. It’s therefore the intelligent solution to divide the team into two groups, so they don’t get too tired. Another smart proposal is the idea of allowing five substitutions, as it’d give the game more quality and help to prevent injuries.”

The other big concern for the Mediterranean countries is that they are not accustomed to playing in the peak of summer, when temperatures can soar well over 30 degrees Centigrade.

“We sent all the players an exercise bike, but it’s never going to be the same thing as running in a match situation. They are professionals, but it won’t be the same.”
