Italy and Sampdoria defender Lorenzo De Silvestri says ‘Antonio Conte’s words made me proud’ after he was praised by the CT.

Conte used the full-back as an example to follow during a Press conference earlier this week, as the 27-year-old has recently recovered from a knee injury to be called up.

“Antonio Conte's words made me proud,” said De Silvestri at today’s Press conference.

“While I was recovering, I felt a great desire to return to the pitch and to the national team.

“On Sunday when I got the news, I was overjoyed. I thank him for this opportunity.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish (Walter) Zenga good luck, we put ourselves at the disposal of the club and we await news on the new Coach.

"At times I suffered a lot and cried when I was on the bench, but they are situations that help you grow as a player but also as a man.

“A career can never be simple, there are ups and downs and I have used them to become who I am.

“Against Fiorentina I immediately tried to make a tackle, to push through the fear.

“I lasted for 90 minutes and the data was surprising, even more so against the team who are top of the table.

“Looking at Euro 2016, there are a lot of us but I’m confident. It’s an objective that must be pursued immediately now that I’m back.

“It’s a privilege to be here given that I’ve just had some very ugly months. It makes me proud."
