Luigi De Siervo confirms plans for a Serie A tournament in the USA during the 2022 World Cup.

Tuttomercatoweb broke the story at the beginning of the month and De Siervo has now confirmed that Italian clubs could move to the USA at the end of the year for a friendly tournament involving players not called-ups by their national teams.

“We want to keep our players fit while promoting ourselves in a market which we consider strategic,” De Siervo told Reuters.

“Fixtures would be scheduled to avoid any overlap with the World Cup calendar.”

Italy haven’t yet booked their place for Qatar 2022, which will take place from November 2022 until December 18, 2022.

The Azzurri must qualify for the competition through the play-offs in March, having finished second in their World Cup qualification group behind Switzerland.

Roberto Mancini’s men will face North Macedonia in the semi-finals and could get Turkey or Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the Final.

  1. I like the idea, getting exposure to Serie A in USA could reap some benefits down the road with tv money but not sure how much interest there would be in watching watered down teams playing up against silver’s marquis event.

  2. I’d certainly go to see my club side (train and play) in Florida as rumored esp. if the Nazionale fail to deliver next month.
