Mattia De Sciglio is confident Stephan El Shaarawy is “a symbol of Milan” and will not be sold.

The defender is in Rio de Janeiro with the Italy squad, but in the Press conference was asked about transfer rumours surrounding his club teammate.

“El Shaarawy seems very relaxed to me and I hope he will continue to be our present and our future,” said De Sciglio.

“He wants to carry on doing well with Milan and the transfer gossip is not distracting him. I don’t think he will leave, as he is a symbol of Milan.

“It’s true that anything could happen in the transfer market, but his presence is very important for Milan.”

Massimo Ambrosini is leaving the Rossoneri, as his contract expires this month after 18 years at the club.

“I thank Ambrosini for all he has done for this team, both on the field and off. He is a real leader and I wish him all the best.”

Italy are still recovering from their surprise 2-2 friendly draw with Haiti and prepare for the Confederations Cup opener against Mexico on Sunday.

“It didn’t go the way we wanted it to, but we didn’t have the right attitude on the field. We care about doing well in the Confederations Cup, we’re getting into shape and will prepare for the game with Mexico.”
