With just under than a third of the season gone, De Sanctis thinks that the Giallorossi are on course to achieve great things this year.
“We played 15 games so far and I think that the team always performed pretty well,” the goalkeeper told media today after a commercial event at shopping centre Euroma 2 in Rome.
“Generally speaking, there were some unlucky episodes or other games where opponents proved to be stronger than us.
“But we are in an enviable position in the League and we still have the chance to go through to the next round in the Champions League, despite a very difficult group.
“Then if we consider all the injuries that this team have suffered in 60 days, I can state that this first balance of the year is absolutely positive.”
Rudi Garcia reiterated yesterday his belief that Roma are stronger than Juventus, following up his claims after the game lost in Turin that the Giallorossi would win the League at the end of the season.
De Sanctis doesn’t see this as arrogance, standing very much behind his Coach.
“What Garcia said is legitimated by the fact that we had talked about it before amongst us, so there’s no difference between what he thinks, what we think and basically what the fans think.
“He took responsibility for saying this but we share the same responsibility as we are working daily towards a target that this fanbase deserves.”
The 37-year-old’s contract expires next summer, and the goalkeeper revealed that a meeting with the club will soon clarify things, while Lukasz Skorupski seems to be on course to gradually replace him between the sticks.
“I think that we’ll find a solution we’ll all be happy with by Christmas. I don’t know what solution and I don’t know whether I’ll continue in another form or I won’t continue.
“As I said at the beginning of the season, I think that Skorupski is a great talent and facts are confirming this.
“I knew that it would be an important season for him and that he’d have had more chances to play, regardless of my injuries.”
