Morgan De Sanctis feels the dismissal of Douglas Maicon helped Roma to victory at Udinese on Sunday.

The Giallorossi’s 100 per cent record looked like it could end after the Brazilian was sent-off at the Stadio Friuli.

However, the 10-men from the capital netted a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from American international Michael Bradley.

“Paradoxically, we played better with 10 men,” the goalkeeper told Tiki Taka on Italia 1. “We did well to take advantage of a counter-attack.

“It was a great victory against Udinese, but it was a struggle and it was unexpected as Udinese played great – especially in the first half.”

The Stadio Olimpico outfit have won nine games from nine and are currently five points clear at the top of the table.

“What is happening is marvellous,” he added. “You couldn’t have predicted it under certain aspects, but the squad has started working towards something important.”

De Sanctis, signed from Napoli in the summer, thinks the recruitment of new boss Rudi Garcia has been instrumental in their success so far.

“The immediate impact he has made has been fantastic. He is a person of intelligence and a superior culture.

“He has an excellent relationship with everyone and he has an understanding of the Italian language that allows him to be very clear with everyone.”
