The Roma midfielder was spotted limping after the 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica and said he had pain in his calf muscle.

He was taken to the Natal Hospital Center today for tests, though the results will only be given in greater detail in a Press conference this evening.

“There is something wrong,” commented chief medic Professor Enrico Castellacci to journalists.

It seems very difficult that De Rossi will recover in time for Tuesday’s World Cup showdown with Uruguay.

Italy need at least a point to continue in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Azzurri are already in Natal to acclimatise ahead of that Uruguay match.
