The Roma midfielder was injured in the Last 16 win over Sweden, and both he and Thiago Motta missed out on the Quarter-Final against Germany, with the Azzurri exiting Euro 2016 on penalties.
“The doctors were clear immediately, and they warned me that recovery was impossible,” De Rossi explained to Corriere della Sera.

“I tried all the same, I didn’t want to just give up like that. The day before I trained with my teammates, but I was crippled compared to the others.
“[Antonio] Conte was right not to let me play.
“I tried to stay in the match [against Spain] but by half-time I was suggesting to Thiago Motta that he warm-up.”
