Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon has edited the famous football axiom again after Manchester United grabbed a point thanks to ‘bloody Cristiano Ronaldo.’
The Dutchman had celebrated his stoppage-time equaliser for 2-2 against Lazio by quoting Gary Lineker’s famous phrase about the sport.
“Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and in the end, the Germans always win.”
De Roon’s version had ‘Marten de Roon scores’ as the finale for that Serie A goal.
However, after CR7 completed his brace in Bergamo for Manchester United’s 2-2 draw, De Roon was forced to readjust again with a hint of bitterness.
“Or bloody Ronaldo.”
Over two Champions League games between the clubs, Ronaldo scored three goals.
