The Ducali opened with a spectacular overhead kick from Graziano Pellè and threatened to make it two on several occasions before half-time.

But Genoa substitute Gianluca Scamacca scored twice in the second half and made sure the three points travel back with the Ligurians.

“On one hand, Genoa score two goals with three shots,” D’Aversa told Sky Sport Italia. “We had nine sensational chances and score only once.

“There was no match, but credit to Genoa. In this respect, they were superior to us in putting their chances away.”
