Roberto D’Aversa thanked Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero for ‘this great opportunity’ at the Marassi.

The Blucerchiati confirmed the appointment of D’Aversa as their new head coach yesterday and the former Parma boss signed a deal until June 2023.

Claudio Ranieri finished ninth in Serie A with 52 points in 2020-21 and then left Liguria this summer.

D’Aversa brought Parma all the way from Serie C to the Italian top flight but left the club after the relegation to Serie B and the former Crociati coach looks forward to a new adventure with Samp.

“I have just arrived in Genoa, I’m very happy,” the coach told Sampdoria’s official website.

“I thank the President Ferrero and the Sampdoria world for this great opportunity. I want to greet all Sampdoria fans and send a hug.”
