The Coppa Italia Round of 16 was in the balance, as Valentin Mihaila cancelled out the Marco Parolo opener, but Vedat Muriqi’s header went in off the upright and goalkeeper Simone Colombi.

“It was certainly a good performance and we were preparing for extra time, so it’s a pity we couldn’t bring home a positive result,” D’Aversa told RAI Sport.

“I could not have asked the lads for more. I made the choices I had to this evening, because those who stayed behind had physical problems, so it was not just a planned squad rotation.

“The important thing is that those who did play represented Parma very well. We’ve got to make fewer errors in future, otherwise we do risk letting results slip.”
