Simone Inzaghi admits Lazio ‘didn’t have the right approach’ in the second half against Parma, but booked their Coppa Italia quarter-final date with Atalanta.

The Aquile narrowly avoided extra time, as after Valentin Mihaila wiped out the Marco Parolo opener, Vedat Muriqi’s 90th-minute header bounced off the upright and goalkeeper Simone Colombi to ricochet into the net.

“I think we had a very good first half and hit the woodwork twice, so could’ve gone into the break 3-0 up,” Inzaghi told RAI Sport.

“These are not games to be taken for granted, as we saw from the other surprising results in the Round of 16. We didn’t have the right approach after the break and made a serious mistake on the Parma goal.

“Fortunately, we were able to take the victory at the end. Muriqi was unable to stay with us for pre-season training, so he is lagging behind in terms of fitness, but he is training well now.

“He was unlucky with the woodwork tonight, but the header was great. I will say the most positive news of the night is the return of Senad Lulic.”

The captain has been out of action since February 2020 and came on as a substitute this evening.

Lazio will face Atalanta in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on January 27.
