Matteo Darmian points out it was “not easy” for Italy to get over the controversial Croatia goal in their 1-1 draw.

The Azzurri thought they had taken the lead through Stephan El Shaarawy, but as they were still celebrating and then protesting at an incorrect offside flag, Croatia ran up the other end to score.

“It was not easy to react straight away because we could’ve been in front with a perfectly valid goal and instead were 1-0 down,” Darmian told Rai Sport.

“Croatia are a tough side to play against, we did well to not lose our shape and claw back a fully deserved result.

“Criticism is normal in football, we try not to pay too much attention and instead to make the most of the little time we have to work for the Nazionale.

“We try to understand what Coach Antonio Conte wants and how to put his ideas into practice.”

The Torino wing-back was asked about rumours Bayern Munich scouts were watching his performance.

“I honestly don’t know. What mattered tonight was to put in a good performance for Italy and for the group.”
