Former Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio has accepted an offer from Monza and is set to complete the move this week.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back is currently a free agent after his contract with the Nerazzurri drew to a close at the start of this month, ending a nine-year spell at the club.

D’Ambrosio has been linked with various clubs in recent weeks, like Lazio and Genoa, but did not complete a free transfer this month, leaving him unattachedjust a few weeks before the start of the season.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Monza emerged to offer D’Ambrosio a one-year contract with an option for a second, based on survival in Serie A. The proposal would allow him to continue living at his current home in Milan, a key factor for the veteran defender.

Initially, D’Ambrosio asked for around 24 hours to make a decision but after a short amount of time he accepted the offer. He will undergo his medicals later this week before completing the move.

Monza CEO Adriano Galliani has been a fan of the Italian defender for years and tried to bring him to Milan back in 2014 before he joined Inter.
