Former Padova boss Alessandro Dal Canto has praised Stephan El Shaarawy following his impressive start to the campaign.

The 20-year-old Milan forward has lit up Serie A this season with six goals in the first nine League games, and his one-time Coach at the Veneto club has admitted to being surprised his rise.

“I did not expect him to do so much so quickly,” he told tuttomercatoweb.com. “But I have never doubted his quality.

“He's been given his chance in the team because Milan sold so many champions in the summer, but it's worked.

“Age is only an obstacle in Italian football. We don't give young players enough of a chance in this country.”

He also commented on Massimiliano Allegri's precarious position as Coach of the Rossoneri.

“He's doing a great job,” he said. “Milan have changed so much, so it was always going to be difficult to do well right away.

“Allegri will be able to achieve important results.”
