Crotone Coach Davide Nicola believes his side ‘have the weapons needed’ to stay in Serie A.

The Pitagorici will compete in Italian football’s top flight for the first time in their history after finishing second in last season’s Serie B table.

They continued their preparations for the new campaign with a 2-0 friendly loss to Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening, but speaking post-match the tactician said his team had given Diego Simeone’s men a good game.

“They are definitely a very strong team who are better equipped than us,” Nicola admitted. “Atletico are a team with important players, but nevertheless their life wasn’t easy against us.

“Our target is to stay in Serie A. It won’t be easy but we have our weapons.

“The game with Atletico has made us understand what is waiting for us in Serie A.”
