“I’ve realised that my beloved football has gone into the background as a result of the situation caused by COVID-19.

“I believe that football clubs, despite them doing everything to allow their players to work safely, have failed to fully guarantee the protection of our health.

“That scares me! I also see a long period of retreat on the horizon, to which I’d say: ‘No.’

“In recent years, thinking about the future, I’ve tried to put my family atop the list of my priorities.

“Consequently, my decisions have been and continue to be based on that.”

Agazzi also previously turned out for the likes of Chievo, Middlesbrough and Cagliari, making more than 100 appearances for the latter.
